[Updated] Top 5 Budget Retro Handhelds for Gameboy Advance (GBA) Emulation

[Originally Posted on December 26, 2020.. RP2 dropped from List. RP2+ Added. RG280V Removed. RG351V Added. Unlike the original RP2, the RP2+ is easy to set up which is why it's now my Top Pick for GBA play.  Retroid Pocket 2 Plus Review  #2 RG351P $80-$90 RG351P I'm not the biggest fan of the RG351P but the screen aspect is absolutely perfect for GBA games and they look better without filters on the RG351P than the other options.  Its a well built console that's perfect for on the go. The interface is simple and doesn't require a lot of knowledge like some systems.  #3 RG351V $100-$120 RG351V Despite hav

Super Mario 64 Stable 60FPS Port to Abernic RG351P

Pretty cool find on YouTube and Facebook I saw earlier from Retro Game Corps on a method to port Super Mario 64 to the RG351P and soon RG351. Pretty exciting tutorial here. Hit the link below.  The 351P wasn't all that great when it first came out but it's getting better and better all the time with the retro community support its getting.  https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=w5PSw19_SEo&feature=youtu.be

RG351P PsX Screen Frame & Buttons Added to the Wishlist

Sadly I have yet to order anything from SakuraRetroModding on the Etsy marketplace but that's going to change in the near future. This Playstation themed mod kit for $12.65 looks exactly like what my RG351P needs.  SakuraRetroModding is legendary in the retro handheld console world at this point with an excellent reputation from anyone I've talked to. The mod kits for multiple handhelds have been on my radar for a while.  If anyone has ordered a kit, feel free to comment below and discuss it. I'd love to hear from more people who enjoy customizing these retro handhelds.  Image from Etsy Listing.

My Top Buy of the Week: Switch Style Thumb Grips on BangGood

Thumb grips are often the most overpriced item you will find in game stores like GameStop where they are often $10 and up just for one pair. I rolled the dice on BangGood picking up 4 pairs for a little less than $8 including shipping and want disappointed. Shipping time was the only negative. It took a little over 6 weeks to receive. The large grip is a bit overkill visually but I actually like it for arcade games.  I'm currently using them on my Nintendo Switch, Anbernic RG351P and two sets on my pair of Retroid Pocket 2 consoles. The big grips reduce the portability a little bit bit still fit inside the cases just fine.  [US$4.59 33% OFF]DATA FROG 8 PCS Silicone Analog Extender Thumb Stick Grips Cover for Nintendo Switch Joy Con Switch Lite Console Joystick Cap Accessories Video Games Equipment & Accessories from Consumer Electronics on banggood https://banggood.app.link/5YqUqFmq6cb *This post is my opinion and does

Top 10 Dollar for Dollar Sub $100 Handheld Game Consoles TODAY

Things change rapidly in the retro handheld console world so this list will only be applicable for a short time. Community support and available modifications to firmwares, software etc also continually change how good or bad certain systems are. I generally go by the import prices not by the reseller prices. Resellers are often just charging to add ROMs which is highly unethical not to mention illegal.  This post is my personal opinion and links do not benefit me.  Retroid Pocket 2 $80  You simply cannot beat the value of the RP2 for $80 as long as you don't mind Android and don't mind having to tinker with the system a lot to get it all set up. This is a system for tech savvy people not beginners to emulation.  Retroid Pocket 2 Review   Anbernic RG351P $95 I'm not a big fan of the screen size with this one but community support has been making this a better option all the time. Great choice for emulation gamers of all levels. No built in WiFi is th

Minecraft on the RG351P - YouTube

I'm not particularly interested in playing Minecraft on a tiny screen but if you are,  here's a good guide from Retro Game Corps on how to set it up:  https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=UbxlbdMd3LU&feature=youtu.be While this doesn't really interest me, it's definitely interesting how many things are now possible with the recent boom in decent retro handheld console. If 2021 is anything like 2020 was,  we should have some exciting things coming our way.

Best Retro Console Manufacturer of 2020

2020 was a pretty awesome year in the Emulation world. I have to say with no doubts that Abernic took the crown this year. Between the RG350P, RG350M, and RG351P they have is some serious options. I haven't had any hands in time with the RG280V which looks like a nice yet unnecessary move. There just wasn't enough there with the 280V to spark a lot of interest with me although I wouldn't mind having one. I can't wait to see what they have in store for us in 2021. Obviously the RG351M is just around the corner but I'm hoping for some other pleasant surprises.  https://www.anbernic.com/phone/

Abernic RG351M Confirmed?

Perhaps... I was holding off on buying the 351P for this very reason. The 351 in metal should be slick. I'm still not a huge fan of the screen size of the 351 compared to the RG350/P/M but there are workarounds for that.  https://www.reddit.com/r/RG350/comments/jpzzuh/rg351m_confirmed_for_this_year/
