Happy 21st Birthday To Castlevania Chronicles

At the time of release, Castlevania Chronicles was considered to be "not modern enough" by many gamers and critics, but it was honestly a pretty great Castlevania entry regardless.  The game originally released on the original PlayStation in Japan on May 24, 2001. I actually really like this game on the go more than a home console game. For the emulation enthusiasts, it plays great on the Anbernic RG351V and Retroid Pocket 2 Plus.

Mega Man X5: February 1, 2001 Game Release (PSOne Classic Video Games)

It's hard to believe that Mega Man X5 was released 21 years ago on the PSOne in North America. (PlayStation (1)/PS1) This was originally intended to be the final game of the "X" series/saga.  There is still a lot to like about Mega Man X5. 2D action platformers were almost a dying genre when this game came out and this game although a little too much like previous games kept the genre going.

What Video Games I'm Playing This Week

Video Game Backlog Infinity At this point I have a backlog of games that I'll never finish but might as well still try.  This week I plan to punch away at the following 2 games and hopefully post up a review or two by the weekend: Diablo II: Resurrected on the Nintendo Switch Diablo II: Resurrected  This isn't my first time playing Diablo II but it is the first time playing this updated version. I've been too sidetracked most of October to get far into the game but hopefully I can get some big hours in this week. Currently I'm about 11 hours of gameplay in.  Koudelka (PlayStation aka PSOne) Koudelka - PSOne For whatever reason I somehow missed this game back in the day but glad I went back to play it. It's an interesting mix of RPG, Survival Horror and Exploring with grid based combat and great cut scenes.

RG351V: Added Custom Buttons From SakuraRetroModding w/ Internal Photos

The Anbernic RG351V has quickly become my most used budget dedicated retro handheld. While I definitely like the "Wood Boy" look, it needed a little something extra and SakuraRetroModding doesn't disappoint. I ordered a set of Playstation style face buttons from his Etsy shop and one set of the repositionable stickers. I probably could have got a Playstation themed Bezel sticker but I like keeping the Anbernic logo visible to give credit where credit is due.  It does feel like I get a little better action out of these buttons for some reason than the stock buttons and they also have a textured feel to them so are far less slick feeling than the originals. The stock buttons occasionally felt like they were about to stick but these don't. The face buttons are the same size as 351P/M buttons too.  I used the rubber from a 351P with the new buttons so that may account for some of the better action although I'm not positive since there's no noticeable difference be

RG351P PsX Screen Frame & Buttons Added to the Wishlist

Sadly I have yet to order anything from SakuraRetroModding on the Etsy marketplace but that's going to change in the near future. This Playstation themed mod kit for $12.65 looks exactly like what my RG351P needs.  SakuraRetroModding is legendary in the retro handheld console world at this point with an excellent reputation from anyone I've talked to. The mod kits for multiple handhelds have been on my radar for a while.  If anyone has ordered a kit, feel free to comment below and discuss it. I'd love to hear from more people who enjoy customizing these retro handhelds.  Image from Etsy Listing.
