Why The Anbernic RG-503 Gets A Soft Pass From Me

Anbernic RG-503 https://anbernic.com/products/anbernic-rg503 I thought about picking up the latest Anbernic handheld but there's just not any need for it in my mind. I think it could be a decent or average option for newcomers to the retro handheld scene though. The big plus of the RG-503 is this is the first handheld in this class that uses an OLED screen (very likely the same exact screen that was on the Vita) and they did finally use a different SoC than the played out RK3326 devices but performance-wise you still aren't getting enough of an upgrade to be worth the $150 and up this is selling for. I'm hoping this translates into other future handhelds jumping on the OLED screens. The biggest issue I have with the RG-503 is that the Retroid Pocket 2 Plus is a lot more powerful and useful at $50 less. The RG503 ends up being sort of an oddball handheld that's lost somewhere between low end budget devices and mid-level handhelds. The other issue is that the RG-503 is s

Review: Retroid Pocket 2 Plus (RP2+) (Retro Game Handheld)

Retroid Pocket 2 Plus $99 Retroid Pocket 2 Plus (RP2+) Initial Review Model: Indigo (GameCube Inspired) Pre-Ordered: 10/30/2021 Shipped: 12/16/2021 Received: 1/5/2022 Initial Review: 1/12/2022 Price Paid: $99 + Shipping  GoRetroid.com Overall Initial Score: 9.3/10 (A) (Price Weighted Very Heavily with all Grades). I plan to revisit this review within a couple months with further findings and as new options become available for the device. This is an initial review based on one long week of heavy use. In the realm of "budget" handhelds, the RP2+ now officially replaces the Anbernic RG351V as my favorite budget option. The 351V was my favorite for the vast majority of 2021. It will be very tough to beat the value of the RP2+ in 2022.  The Good 👍Significantly improved Saturn, Dreamcast, DS & N64 Performance!! 👍Improved Buttons 👍Drastically Improved Firmware/UI 👍No More Retroid OS 👍Setup Is Easy The Bad 👎Right Slider Is Awful 👎Screen Is "Meh" In

Dude; Where's My Retroid Pocket 2 Plus?

I was hoping to have the Retroid Pocket 2 Plus (RP2+) in hand by now, but we are now on the 8th day of it just sitting somewhere at JFK Airport in NYC. At this point, I find it unlikely to get an in-depth review out until at least the first week or two of January... You can still pre-order a Retroid Pocket 2 Plus at GoRetroid , but the wait time for one to ship out is likely around 30 days.  They are shipping them out as they are produced. At the moment, supply has not caught up with demand. At $99, The RP2+ on paper looks to be the best deal in retro handhelds.  In thr meantime, there are trustworthy reviews on this highly anticipated handheld already surfacing, and things look very promising. RGC's  in-depth review gives you a very nice look at this budget Android handheld: https://retrogamecorps.com/2021/12/29/review-retroid-pocket-2/
