Retroid Pocket 3 Plus Ships Out Friday!

Retroid Pocket 3 Plus

It sounds like Moorechip is on schedule and the Retroid Pocket 3 Plus will start shipping out to buyers on Friday. Shipping with this device will be in the order in which they were purchased. I'd imagine we will start seeing some in-depth reviews of this upgraded handheld (upgraded 3 months after the RP3 launch).

Personally, I'm sitting this one out. I purchased the original Retroid Pocket, Retroid Pocket 2 Plus and Retroid Pocket 3, so it's time to take a break from that. If Moorechip does make a Retroid Pocket 4 in 2023, I'll likely check that out or the Retroid Pocket 4 Plus.

While I like the competing RG505 more on paper, the RP3+ still has some advantages like stacked shoulders, likely more software support, higher resolution and HDMI out. If those things don't matter that much to you,  the Anbernic RG505 may be the way to go. Both have the same SoC and will likely be able to handle maybe half of the PS2 library well when it comes to emulation power. Sadly, both are Android OS only (no Linux CFW will happen)...

The Retroid Pocket 3 Plus can still be pre-ordered at GoRetroid.com

As far as the pace of rapid releases in retro game handhelds, I see it as a positive and negative. It is increasing competition and forcing competitive pricing but too many back to back releases may not feel very consumer friendly to anyone who bought a device only for an upgraded version to release 90 days later. At this stage,  I'd say very few handhelds are "must buys" because there's always something better right around the corner.

Disclosure: I have no business ties with Moorechip (Retroid manufacturer) and this post has no affiliate links. I do not benefit from the above link.
