Anbernic RG351MP Up Next

Starting to look like the next Anbernic device will be another RK3326 device called the RG351MP (Metal Pro?).. before we get the RG552.

From the information available it looks like another horizontal handheld upgrade to the 351P/M but this time with a proper 4:3 640x480 screen which is pretty exciting.

Personally I wasn't a big fan of the screens on the 351P/M so this is a welcome move to have a horizontal handheld to match up with the 351V. No word on price yet but I expect it to be around $140-$150.

RK3326 devices are starting to get played out at this point but this should still be a good option for some people.

GKD Mini Plus Classic [Known Specs]

The GKD Mini Plus Classic (not to be confused with the GKD Mini Plus) looks to be a powerful option that competes with the Anbernic RG353V running the same SoC (RK3566). Both devices have the same internal specs. The Mini Plus has an optional Dock that adds thumb-sticks.  The demos have been shown to run a version of JELOS but is not supported by JELOS (yet anyway). IF GKD sends units to community developers, there's a possibility this device could get supported.  A convenient tool to compare devices is the retro handhelds spreadsheet from timeisart:  Handhelds Spread Sheet Link Key Known GKD Mini Plus Classic SPECS  OS/Firmware: Linux (JELOS) on Demo. Reportedly will ship with a different OS.  Emulation Power: Should Handle Up to N64/PSP SoC: RK3566  CPU: Cortex-A55 CPU Cores: 4 CPU Threads: 4 CPU Clock: 1.8 GHz Architecture: ARM  GPU: Mali-G52 2EE GPU Clock: 850 MHz RAM: 1GB Screen: 4:3 OCA 3.5" IPS 640x480  Battery: 3000 mAh Storage: Dual External microSD Connectivity: W

Buy The Retroid Pocket 3 or Anbernic RG-552 (Very Early Thoughts)?

Anbernic RG-552 or Retroid Pocket 3?  We have definitely reached the point in retro handhelds where no one has the time and/or money to pick them all up. Between the Retroid Pocket 3 and the Anbernic RG-552, I'm likely picking one of the two up at some point (probably not at launch for either but at some point next year). These two handhelds will likely be strong competitors. I'm leaning RG-552 for the screen but we'll see... I'll already be fairly busy this December/January/February with the Steam Deck, and Retroid Pocket 2 Plus.  Price Final prices are not confirmed yet.  Release Dates Anbernic RG-552 is expected to become available for order/pre-order as soon as November 11, 2021 but that is not confirmed. Retroid Pocket 3 is also expected to become available for order and/or pre-order at some point in November.  Screen (Winner = RG-552)   For the moment I'm leaning towards the Anbernic RG-552 due to the fact that in 4:3, you'll get about 4.7 inch

Big Trouble in Retroid Pocket 3 Paradise? Maybe

*Update September 14* I'm honestly starting to suspect that Taki may have been right on some issues. Reports are coming back from people a little more frequent than I expected. If the reports continue,  I might have been wrong. Only time will tell when more people receive them.  *Update August 20*  The company has responded to this video on their Discord channel stating that the screen flickering and other issues (they didn't address all issues in the video) with the software had already been fixed. Their response is lengthy and interesting. The timing of the video slamming the device certainly was unusual. From the wording of the response, it certainly sounds like they plan to release a Retroid Pocket 3 Plus at some point as well. Now it's just a waiting game to see if the RP3 turns out good, or if it really is a deeply troubled system as Taki stated (I'm suspecting it will be fine): "@everyone Given that the 20th was our original shipping date, Taki Udon released
