Retro Games I'm Playing This Week

The nice thing about retro gaming is that there's always something to play...

This week I plan to spread my time across a few handhelds and hopefully complete a few games.

Nintendo Switch

The Nintendo Switch is far from my favorite system but I've been playing a lot on it lately. I'm about halfway through Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne HD Remaster so might as well finish it up this week. I picked up the regular digital version last week on sale. The last time I played through the game was roughly 16 years ago on the PS2. The game has aged pretty well for sure and is still a must play for any old school turn-based JRPG fan. I'll likely post a review of the HD Remaster soon.

Anbernic RG351V

I tend to play a lot of Game Boy Advance titles on Anbernic handhelds and am currently punching away at The Legend of Zelda: The Minnish Cap. This is also my second playthrough of the game. Of all the Zelda games over the years,  this one is firmly in my Top 5.  I'm already about 90% of the way through the game so should be able to knock this out fast.

The game plays better than ever with the 351V's brilliant screen and using a few filters. I still have the original GBA cartridge so it's very easy to notice the difference.

iPad Mini 5

Unfortunately my iPad Pro ended up broken so the only functional iPad I have at the moment is the iPad Mini 5 but it's a very convenient size for Gaming. My plan this week is to knock out a playthrough of Knights of the old Republic so I can move on to KOTOR2 which I also picked up for iOS. This will be the 3rd full playthrough I've done over the years with this game.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G

Finally I'm looking forward to knocking out a couple games on Android this week as well. No matter what happens I'm unlikely to ever put a debt in my my game backlog though especially when I find myself replaying games multiple times. (Lol) The Flip isn't a great phone for Gaming although its convenient with how pocketable it is folded.

I picked up Evoland 2 on the PlayStation Pass a while back so should probably play it at some point and this seems like a good week. The original Evoland was a cool idea that missed the mark with execution a little bit making it just an average or even below average game. I'm hoping E2 is a big improvement.

In addition to those I plan to get back on my Definitive Top 100 SEGA Genesis Games list. I still have a long way to go with that. Feel free to leave a comment and suggest future games to play.
